How a conversion works

When you add a file, your browser reads it directly from your disk, into memory. The code that performs the conversion (JavaScript libraries) is downloaded once when the page loads, then runs locally, on the processor of your computer or phone. At no point is the content of your file transmitted to a server — including ours.

What you can verify yourself

Open your browser's developer tools (F12 key), "Network" tab, then convert a file. You'll see that the libraries load once, before conversion, and that no network request is triggered when you add or convert a file afterward. It's the simplest proof we can offer.

What we measure

We use a privacy-friendly traffic analytics tool, with no tracking cookie: pages visited, conversion formats chosen, approximate country, and device type, aggregated and anonymized. This data is used only to understand which conversions are useful and to improve the site.

What we never see

The content of your files, their names, their exact size, or any data they contain. None of that ever leaves your device, so none of it can ever reach us.

Limitations to know about

Some conversion libraries are loaded from an external content delivery network (CDN) when you open the page. This loading reveals your IP address to that host, as with any resource on a website, but never transmits the content of your files. Fonts are loaded the same way, from Google Fonts.

Legal basis and retention period

Traffic statistics are collected on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving how the Service is used. Because they are aggregated and anonymized at the point of collection, they do not allow us to identify you individually and are therefore not subject to the same retention rules as identifiable personal data. Since the content of your files is never transmitted, there is by definition no retention period for it: it never left your device.

Processors and technical third parties

The Service relies on the following providers, which may receive your IP address when resources load (never the content of your files):

• Hostinger — website hosting
• cdnjs (Cloudflare) — delivery of conversion libraries
• Google Fonts — font delivery
• [Analytics tool, if enabled — e.g. Plausible or Umami]

Advertising and cookies

FiloConvert plans to display advertisements provided by Google AdSense to help fund the service, once our application has been approved by Google. Once this ad network is active, Google may place cookies on your device to measure ad performance and, if you consent, to personalize ads based on your interests. These cookies are independent of your file conversions: they never give Google any access to their content.

On your first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline these cookies. Your choice is stored on your device; until you accept, no advertising cookie is placed. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which will bring the banner back. You can also manage Google ad personalization directly at adssettings.google.com, and review Google's Partner Sites policy.

If you visit this site from the European Union or the United Kingdom, no personalized ads will be shown to you without this explicit consent, in line with Google's requirements on the matter.

Your rights

FiloConvert is subject to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which governs how businesses protect personal information across Canada. If the publisher operates in Quebec, Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (including the amendments introduced by the law commonly known as "Law 25") also applies, in addition to or in place of PIPEDA depending on applicable precedence rules. If you visit us from the European Union or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may also apply.

Depending on your situation, these laws grant you a right of access to any information we may hold about you, a right of rectification, a right to withdraw consent, and a right to data portability. In FiloConvert's case, these rights are difficult to exercise in practice: the traffic statistics we collect are aggregated and anonymized at the point of collection, with no individual identifier, and the content of your files has never been in our possession. For any request, write to contact@filoconvert.com; we will respond within the timeframes set by law.

If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, if the publisher operates in Quebec, with Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information (cai.gouv.qc.ca). A visitor from Europe can contact the data protection authority of their country of residence.

Privacy incidents

If a privacy incident posing a real risk of significant harm were to occur involving the data we hold, we would notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as well as the affected individuals, in accordance with PIPEDA's obligations — and, if the publisher operates in Quebec, also Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information under Law 25 — and we would keep a record of any such incident. Since the content of your files never passes through our systems, it cannot, by definition, be the subject of such an incident on our end.
